The Bible was not systematically divided into chapters until the early 13th century, circa 1227. The first Bible to use both chapters and verses was the Geneva Bible published in 1560, 51 years before the King James translation.
Can you imagine trying to find “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” in uninterrupted text, rather than flipping directly to Philippians 4:13?
